Australia Day

Last night we had the Smiths over for tea for an early Australia Day celebration. I tried out some new salad recipes served with lamb chops and mint sauce then, cheesecake and lamingtons.

Today we were up early to watch Janelle compete in the annual Aust Day fun run. She won the Womens open 5km division again in a time of 19.38min...

She got presented with her trophy, bottle of wine and Discount Auto Parts voucher for $50 by the Mayor...

We went and had morning tea at Dome...

Then went out to see Nicole and watch her and her mates on their "slippery slide"...

We had a lazy afternoon with a visit from Steven before going into town to watch the fireworks...

Aussie, Aussie,Aussie!

Happenings

Peter went fishing with Gordon down near Busselton a few days ago. He caught a few little ones - just enough for a feed...

I was tired of looking through our pile of cookbooks stored in a kitchen cupboard so we went and found a nice bookcase to display them in. They are now much easier to access...

Janelle crossed off another recipe she wanted to try off her list, this time it was Creme Brulee's. She got the blowtorch for Christmas...

Janelle and Sarah spent the morning enjoying the beach...

And the big news is Nicole, Ant and Danika are off to Egypt...

Just hope she buys a ticket home from somewhere!

11/1/11

Today we took a drive to Bridgetown so Sarah could clock up some time in her log book. I am a very nervous passenger now and this drive with the windy roads and huge trucks didn't do a lot for my nerves. But it was all good experience for Sarah and she did really well especially keeping calm when this big truck came bearing down on us very fast when we were stuck behind a caravan...

He got as close as he could...

We had a nice picnic lunch by the river...

Despite being very dry Bridgetown is a very pretty little town and we have happy memories of our time living there. We did a bit of shopping before heading back. One of the cows from the "Cow Parade" down south last year has made Balingup its home as they all got auctioned off and are now scattered all over the place, we hadn't seen this one before...

It was a nice day out with the bonus of another 3 hours driving recorded in Sarah's logbook!

Two very tired dogs for the rest of the day.

1/1/11

We welcomed in 2011 half asleep watching a U2 concert DVD. Nicole worked at Coles most of the evening and Janelle went to Perth with Kyle and Emma to an Apocalypse party...

We had a relaxing New Years Day, Janelle came back from Perth early and very tired, Peter and Sarah drove to Busselton to get up some time in her log book and visit Nan and Pop. I put the Christmas Tree away and then Janelle and I watched Toy Story 3 followed by a hot bike ride. Nicole went to Perth with Ant and they spent the day at the Perth Cup...

We went to the Back Beach and enjoyed a glass of wine and nibbles and watched the sun set on the first day of a new decade and then took the dogs for a walk...

Happy New Year!

Croissants

One of Janelle's goals was to make homemade Croissants. She found an easy recipe in a cookbook called "Frame by Frame Cooking" which she received for Christmas. They were quite time consuming to make (not to mention the mess in the kitchen) but she got them made...

They were very yummy warm with butter and jam.

Cape Le Grande

Today we had Dad's bacon and eggs cookup for breakfast...

We then travelled out to Cape Le Grande and had a picnic lunch on the beach...

Then it was over to Frenchman Peak for the girls to climb. We went part of the way but couldn't be bothered going all the way to the top with them...

Here they are right up the top (3 tiny little dots!)...

There were so many stunning orange "Christmas Trees" out in full bloom...

We also called into Lucky Bay and had a walk on the clean white squeaky beach and a padlle in the crystal clear water...just beautiful...

After travelling back to Esperance it was "Bobs" icecream time...

We took the dogs for a walk along the foreshore to the jetty. Dad and Janelle made some beer damper from a recipe in his new bush cookbook for tea...

It was then time to gather everything up and pack for the long trip home.
