Janelle's Optionals

As part of her years study with the Rural Clinical School Janelle had to do 2  two week placements. She chose to do one in Perth at various hospitals and the other in Karratha. She flew up to Karratha and stayed in the house the other RCS students live in but they were all away doing their optionals so she was all by herself.  It was certainly an experience for her and full of surprises! Not being a lover of flying and then having to travel into the outback in this little plane was not something she was expecting!...

During her first week she travelled with a paediatrician to Tom Price where they stayed for 2 nights. Janelle loved the experiences.

With no gym exercise was walking in Tom Price and an early morning climb up Mount Nameless...

Views over Tom Price
From Tom Price they did a day trip (by road!) to Paraburdoo...
After a busy few days behind her it was time for the flight back to Karratha...
With a weekend to fill in Janelle went exploring and tried to rekindle some of her childhood memories of life in Karratha over 16 years ago. First she went for a drive to check out Dampier...

Ted was her company
A visit to her old school where she won her very first sports medal...
And our old house (now obscured by the fence)...

During her second week Janelle travelled to Roebourne and out to the Aboriginal communities. A highlight of this week was taking an  aboriginal lady who was due to give birth any day with a high risk pregnancy into Karratha. She went into labour early one evening and Janelle spent the night with her and helped deliver her healthy baby girl.  A great 2 weeks experiencing the outback!
