Painting Day

This morning 2 painters turned up nice and early to give the kitchen/meals and family room ceiling a new coat of paint. After some heavy rain while we were away a water mark was left around one of the airconditioning vents where the roof had leaked from a tile which had moved. As the mark couldn't just be patched we have had to have the whole area painted which it definately needed, so thanks to the insurance company it is being done!
And that means no cooking or housework for me today!

Spotlight had a huge clearance of all their wool last week so at just over $1.00 a ball for pure wool I bought a few balls. I have been trying to make some "granny squares"...

Something simple to do while watching the TV.

Janelle asked us to find some old photos of her bunny "Snowy" to show a friend. He was such a beautiful boy and a big part of the family for the years we had him...

And he was happy to share his food with Pippy! So cute.

Birthdays

Another year rolls by and Peter and I turn 49 and 45. I turned on my Nintendo DS and that even reminded me!

I hada nice day and got some lovely gifts. Peter's parents called in for lunch on their way home from Carnarvon. Janelle came home from Uni and we got together with the Smiths for a pizza tea and a good laugh. Nicole was in charge of candles on the cake and it just so happened that we didn't have a number 5 or 9 so she came up some alternatives.

Some lovely flowers from Janelle...

Peter's parents came over again on Sunday for his birthday and we had Chinese for lunch. Janelle went back to Perth via Fremantle due to an accident which closed the freeway for a while. One more year then the big 50...

Footy and Fathers Day

Janelle was lucky enough to be offered a ticket to the Dockers Elimination final against Hawthorn at Subi oval with Lexi. She wasn't going to go but with the Dockers not playing in finals very often we told her to go and enjoy herself. Which she did ...

They had great seats and even better the Dockers won the game by 30 points!!!

Father's Day was very quiet this year. Dad W was in Albany and Dad J in Carnarvon. Nicole came for a cooked brekky then went to Perth for a concert with Ant.

We did a bit of tidying up around the yard and then went to Waldecks and got a few more vegie plants and a lime tree. We had a chat to Janelle on Skype which is a great way to communicate with the computers.

Happenings

An update on whats been going on lately...

- Janelle ran in her second City to Surf on Sunday 29th Aug. This year she registered under UWA and again ran the 12km race. She was very pleased with herself as she ran 4 minutes faster than last year in a time of 53min 35secs. She came 17th in the female 19-29 category and 452 out of everyone that ran the 12km. Well done Nelly!

-I got very spoilt with these lovely flowers from Peter for our 24th wedding anniversary...

-We had a wander in Bunnings and this tiny Blueberry plant came home with us. I am hoping I will be able to keep it alive so it will grow to produce some beautiful fruit one day...

Also got some fresh grass for the dogs...

-On Wednesday Sarah passed her practical driving test! She was very happy so now she just has to do her 25 hours driving, record it in her log book and wait 6 months until she can get her liscence.

-Nicole and Ant have been busy making a video to try and get on to the Australian series of Amazing Race. They had a lot of fun and have sent it off.

Fig Tree

The property that backs onto part of our property has recently been sold. Some serious demolition has been done on parts off the house and in the backyard. Today as the machinery moved closer to our fence I knew it was time for the old fig tree to go. I feel quite sad as it is something that we have looked at everday for over 13 years. In winter after all its leaves have fallen it let sun into the kitchen area. In spring we have watched as its enormous leaves grow so fast. In summer it has filled with figs (which were always full of fruit fly!) and left a stinky mess in our wood area as the fruit has rotted. In autumn it has made a huge mess when all the leaves fall and blow everwhere. I has provided us with welcome shade in summer when we had the pool and has been a popular gathering spot for the local birds. But now its gone...

Farewell fig tree.

Another 21st

Today we celebrated Kelsie's 21st at The Mangrove Cafe for lunch...

It was a lovely meal followed by a beautiful sponge cake with white chocolate around the outside made by her Aunty. We then continued on to an evening party at Kelsie's house. Thats 2 21st birthdays down and 3 more to go between our families!

Christmas in August

This years Christmas in July at Trinity was a bit late so it became "Christmas in August". Janelle dressed up as a sweet little angel and won a prize (bottle of wine) for her efforts...

As always they had a lovely Christmas dinner.
