Big catch up

Another month has flown by. Here a few things and events that have been happening in our little world. We decided to take the fridge out of Mildred as it was too big and well we just didn't like it. It wasn't as easy as we first thought as it was bolted to the floor from underneath the van. Anyway we eventually got it out...

It was filthy behind it and lots of red dust and dirt - but sitting in the corner was a folded piece of paper. At first we thought it was a very old $10 note. I carefully picked it up and folded it. To say we were excited was an understatement!!! This was a receipt from a caravan park in Victoria from June 1972 and even has the registration number on it. At $1.30 a night for a powered site it seems like a bargain these days. (We have since contacted the 3 Swan Hill caravan parks and have had a response from the Big 4 one saying that it is them - but don't expect to pay that rate when we come to visit!)   Hard to believe it has sat there for 41 years and is still in such good condition... 

We also found a teatowel, pot holder and some matches...

Janelle and the other RCS students went down to the "cow" area to take some photos of their life for the year in the south west for the end of year university book / video...

We celebrated another year in our lives...

I off loaded some old fabric I had no use for to Mum J.....she bought it right back to me in the form of cushions for Mildred... 

 They also gave us an old esky which is about 50 years old to match our little van perfectly... 

We couldn't resist having a more in depth look at what Mildred is hiding so Peter decided to remove some of the ceiling to investigate the leakage. Turns out it is just the old timbers holding the ceiling up have sagged causing the roof to sag as well. Nothing quite a bit of work wont fix!...

 We also tested the single bed made from collapsable table and chairs...

And a bit more searching found a bullet and a paintbrush!...

Peter and I attended the Bankwest "Heroes" awards night at Government House. It was a nice evening with some great entertainment including Aussie singer Ricki-Lee...

We made a family trip to Perth to watch the Cirque du Soleil Michael Jackson tribute. It was a good show with great music...

I got my purple on to cheer on the Fremantle Dockers in their first football grandfinal against Hawthorn. Janelle went into Fremantle as she was still in Perth and got to soak up the atmosphere. Sadly Freo lost by 15 points...

 In between watching the footy Peter fitted a new lock to Mildred's door (not cheap at $118.00!)...

I finished  hand sewing the binding on this little lap quilt while watching the footy - Sarah gave me the fabrics for my birthday...

We went over to Busselton and hooked up Mum and Dad J's caravan (soon to ours).  The fun part was trying to spin it around on the spot to get it on the Colorado. Eventually we got it on and discovered that the left indicator wasn't working (totally full of water) so we could only got for a short drive around the block turning right!!...

Someone may have used a bit much weed killer on the lawn!

Being a long weekend and with news that Wellington Dam was over flowing we went for a drive to have a look. We met up with Wayne and Sue and went for a walk and then had a picnic in the Quarry. I have known Sue for nearly 20 years and a few weeks ago we discovered that both our mums have the same maiden name!!! That side of our family originates from England and Scotland and Sue's mum still lives in England so we will be doing some investigating to see if we are related. For now we refer to each other as "cuz". 

The Dam looks different now as you can no longer walk out to the overflow as we did here in 2007 - instead they have built what looks like a maintenance small road all the way across... 

Wellington Dam will always be a special spot for me as I have many happy memories of family picnics there when we lived in Collie in the 1970's...

The Quarry hasn't changed a bit still with the square roofed seating areas and the same stone work steps and wall in the carpark...

I ordered my first organic fruit box from a local lady - I was a bit disappointed with some of the quality seeming a bit old for my liking but overall I was happy.  I may try another one when the summer fruits start... 

Nicole celebrated her 25th birthday with a party a few days before and dinner with us on her birthday. WOW 25 years certainly passed quickly!  She had a good day with a few surprises...

And our latest little project on Mildred is we couldn't unlock the flywire part of the door as there was no key. Peter took the lock off and went to a local safe and lock shop and they were able to make new keys for this very old lock. We were very happy!...
