Exploring London

None of us seemed too jet lagged despite Peter and I waking up very early so we decided our first place to visit would be Buckingham Palace. We walked down to our train station and got an all day pass on the Underground. Wow this is one huge train system! So many connecting lines that just go further underground each time you change. But we got to our destination and we got better at it as we used it more (you can even take your dogs on the trains!)...

We got to Buckingham Palace quite early so we had plenty of time to look around before the crowds arrived to watch the Changing of the Guards ceremony. This went on for quite a while and its quite amazing this traditions still goes on every day!

We then made our way towards Downing St stopping along the way to look at a few things and of course the red telephone box...

Downing Street was only small and is all blocked off to the public...

Next we walked over to see Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament...

We walked across the River Thames, had some lunch then queued for tickets for The London Eye. Peter saw a counter where you pay a bit more to fast track ticket buying so we decided that was the way to go to save another hour. The view of London was fantastic...

Next on our list was Westminster Abbey...

This was our first church to visit (so may more to come!) and we were all amazed by both the interior and exterior. It was fairly dark inside and lots of little rooms where tombs of famous people and members of the Royal family are kept. We respected the instructions and didn't take any photos inside.

We then walked over to Trafalgar Square, seems to be the place to hang out and people watch, which is what we did and also had a quick look in the National Art Museum...

As the sun doesn't set until about 10.30pm we kept going and caught a bus to the famous shopping strip Oxford Street.

It was very busy and we were all tired so we called it a day and caught the train "home", picked up some pasta for tea and got rested for another day. We had walked so many kilometers and my feet had blisters.
