Assisi

We were up and off early to travel from Rome to Assisi. We had a stop after 2 hours for toilets and some food and then continued on to Assisi. This area of Italy is called Umbria. We stopped first in the lower part of Assisi and went to the Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli. It is another beautiful church but is extra special because inside is another little chapel...

Janelle and Sarah bought some beads in the Basilica and had them blessed by a priest. We then went up to the other part of Assisi to our motel, the Hotel Subasio.

The views were spectacular, this is from our room...

A quick look and luggage drop in our rooom and it was time for another mini tour. This was to another church the Basilica di San Francesco which has an upper church, lower church and a crypt where the body of St Francis was laid to rest.

We then had some free time to explore the little streets os Assisi...

It was another very hot day so we went back to the room for a rest before our next optional tour. This was to a little village called Spello. It was very pretty and our guide told us its history but I had a headache so didn't absorb too much just took some photos...

To finish off the day we had our official "welcome drinks" and dinner in a beautiful terrace garden setting restaurant at the motel with an amazing view. Only problem was the food was crap...

Janelle and Sarah went out for a night time wander while we rested as I was still feeling a bit off.
